Your friends may love you, but seeing every excruciating detail of your weekend fridge-cleaning adventures in their newsfeeds is a bit much.

If you can't keep that impulse in check, it may be time to put down your mobile phone and step away from the Facebook account. After all, admitting you have a problem is the first step toward recovery.

A status update is meant to be a quick, often witty, comment letting your friends know what's going on in your life at a given moment. It's not supposed be a constant stream of consciousness.

Changing that status a couple times a day makes sense. After all, it's easy to jump on Facebook, browse your newsfeed, put in your two cents and jump off.

‘I dabbed the powder onto my tongue and it tasted so sweet, and salty…it just felt so right. I was hooked straight away.’

The nursing student says she knew eating soap was dangerous, but ignored the warning labels on the box in favour of licking the deadly powder daily, from the minute she woke up in the morning.

Soon she had moved onto licking the bubbles of soap in the shower, too, a habit that was getting her through up to five bars of soap a week.

‘In the shower, I like to lather up a green bar of soap, and lick the bubbles. And as the soap disintegrates, I pop a tiny amount of the soap into my mouth and suck it. It’s heavenly.

‘I love the clean feeling it gives me. Eating soap feels so much cleaner than just washing with it.’

After six months of eating soap, unhappy Tempestt decided to be brave and seek medical advice. She was diagnosed with a rare disorder called PICA, which doctors told her is characterised by an appetite for substances that are largely non-nutritive.

Sufferers have been known to compulsively eat metal, coins, chalk, batteries and even toothbrushes. It can often be caused by a mineral deficiency, which explains why pregnant women often crave eating coal when needing iron.

But in Tempestt’s case doctors believed the condition was bought on by stress.

‘Things got really stressful for me when my boyfriend, Jason, split up with me and left for college,’ she admitted.

‘He told me he was going to college in Kansas to study business. I begged him to give the long distance relationship a go, but he told me it was over. I was devastated.’

When Tempestt herself had to leave for college, hundreds of miles away from her family home in Florida, things took a turn for the worse.

‘College was five hours away from my family, and the stress got bigger. With no boyfriend and my family miles away, I got lonely, sad and depressed. I turned to bath soap and laundry detergent and my problem got increasingly worse.’

Dr Barton Blinder, the world’s authority on PICA, says that eating soap in these quantities could seriously affect Tempestt’s health:.

‘With soap, the worry is the problems associated with ingesting toxic chemicals, which are typically alkaline but there are other toxic substances in soap.

‘These can damage someone’s metabolism and cause digestive problems. With soap, you’re also concerned about the acid-base balance of the blood.’

But for Tempestt, therapy got to the bottom of her addiction to soap, and the cause of her PICA.

‘I always knew I loved the smell of washing detergent,’ she explained.

I remember the brand my Mum always used to use – I remember the smell vividly, it was the smell of her cardigan when she hugged me, and the smell of my bed sheets as a child.

‘I used to love smelling the powder, but when life got so stressful I found only eating the soap would help.

‘It is an addiction, I can’t stop, and I have sought the help of a doctor who specialises in addiction. The doctor told me I must empty my house of all washing detergent and soap, anything that triggers my addiction.’

Psychologists have said that Tempestt most likely turned to soap eating as a comforting coping mechanism when she found herself away from her family.

‘We use liquid at home now,’ she said, ‘and for some reason I’ve got no need to eat that.’

The doctor gave Tempestt intensive Cognitive-behavioral therapy, or CBT, to give her replacement thoughts that will prevent her from compulsively reaching for soap.

‘I’m learning to think about positive things when I feel I need to eat soap,’ she said.

She has also been encouraged to go for long walks, avoiding places where soap is present, like bathrooms and laundrettes.

She added: ‘Doctors have encouraged me to talk about my issues, because they think my addiction is caused by me bottling things up.’

And for the teenager who used to take not one, not two, but three bottles of soap into the shower, she hasn’t eaten soap since September 2010.

When her mother found out about her daughter’s addiction, she ordered Tempestt to return home from college. It may have been a smart move as Tempette admitted: ‘I just couldn’t face being back there, alone, with a campus full of soap.’

Today, she faces a long road of recovery, but says she hopes she’ll never have to eat soap ever again.

‘I suppose my Mum is secretly relieved that I was addicted to soap,’ she admited, ‘and not dangerous drugs or something.’

Hundreds of members of Islam Defenders Front (FPI), staged a rally in front of the office of Maxima Picture (MP) production house on Jl Pangeran Jayakarta, Manggadua Selatan, Central Jakarta, Friday afternoon (10/9); protesting the upcoming arrival of porn star Maria Ozawa alias Miyabi of Japan to Indonesia.
By holding up posters and banners bearing the refusal, the protesters did march from Nurul Abror Mosque next to Hotel Le Graunde in Manggadua Selatan, heading to the production house office situated right beside Hotel Ibis.
“Don’t let the porn star step her feet on Indonesian soil,” said one of the protesters.
During the rally, 6 representatives of FPI managed to meet with the management of Maxima Picture.
After the meeting, FPI Vice Chairman Habib Fahri Jamilulail said the Maxima’s management had yet to be able to make any decision regarding the Miyabi’s arrival. “Whatever the reason, we will never change our stance,” Habib Fahri said.
Fahri said, his side would directly hamper the Miyabi’s coming such as road blockage in case the plan keeps running. “We will found out the routes Miyabi will take,” he pledged, adding that FPI gave one week for the Maxima management to make decision on the cancellation of the plan.
Due to the demonstration, Jakarta police were forced to close the lane along Jl Pangeran Jayakarta. “We deploy 150 personnel from Sawahbesar police precinct and Central Jakarta police office to guard the rally,” said Com. Pol. Iskandar, Head of Sawahbesar police precinct.
The demonstrators peacefully dispersed at around 3.30 pm. However, when asked by journalist concerning the meeting, the management of Maxima Picture declined to give any comment.

There are, more or less, two distinct sub-genres of zombie movies: the siege picture, in which the interest is chiefly in seeing how a group of people function (or don’t) while barricaded in a building besieged by zombies (Night of the Living Dead, most of Shaun of the Dead); and post-apocalyptic road pictures like 28 Days Later, in which a group of survivors forms a new family while exploiting the advantages of everyone else being dead. (Dawn of the Dead marries both subgenres by having the survivors hide out from zombies in a shopping mall.) Two indispensable stops in a zombie road movie are the supermarket and the abandoned mansion, both of which are made in the knowing zombie satire Zombieland.

Our guide through Zombieland is Columbus (Jesse Eisenberg) a nervous, anxiety-plagued 20-year-old virgin (was Michael Cera unavailable?) who has managed to survive a zombie holocaust with a long list of rules that are displayed, in a visual conceit that never gets old, on pavement, cars, or just hanging in the air. Trying to hitchhike home to Ohio he meets Tallahassee (Woody Harrelson, sending up his role in Natural Born Killers as a psychotic zombie hunter), and in the aforementioned supermarket they run into grifters Wichita and Little Rock (Emma Stone and Abigail Breslin), with whom they spar all the way to Los Angeles, where they end up crashing in the mansion of a very famous movie star thanks to one of those maps of the stars’ homes. (For more of that very famous movie star, stick around through the closing credits.)

Even in a genre that thrives on characters having really bad ideas like partying in a graveyard, the girls’ destination, an amusement park, is particularly implausible. Like most horror films these days, Zombieland is more interested in grossing out its audience than scaring it, and a little suspense would have gone a long way. But if you’ve ever wanted to see the kid from Little Miss Sunshine shooting zombies, here’s your chance.

A bug seems to be able to change the information in the user Facebook accounts, and is now loose in Facebook. Bug named Vidyartha, but it really bugs can turn into a virus? It is still under investigation.

The name sounds like a bug Vidyartha comes from India, or rather similar to that Vidyartha College is an institute in southern Sri Lanka. Perhaps this can not be trusted, but some users Facebook, told TechTree India, have seen their school's name was changed to the name of the institution, automatically. So far, only limited bugs or viruses that Vidyartha throwing a tantrum.

When he checked into a few other Facebook users, they found no weirdness like the above. However, Facebook users can at least wait and see the action from Facebook on this case. For now, the bug is still Vidyartha a simple bug. Fortunately, it seems not all Facebook accounts affected by this bug, although the spread of this bug quite fast since the first release, Wednesday (30/09)

The Netherlands never really was a desert, but the designers down at UCX Architects in Amsterdam created this apartment complex called The Urban Cactus, anyway. Sure looks weird; though not half as weird as the Babelfish translation of the designers' description, which goes like: "Urban Cactus are themselves to the head of this back edge and belong as an object more at this green vein then at the surrounding urban structure." You betcha!

Designed by a group of Dutch architects and designers of the firm MVRDV, these are Wozoco's Apartments: our second weirdo in Amsterdam, Netherlands - the Dutch rule too! A pretty funky architecture fit for a college's design department dorm, you'd think? Nope, they are for the elderly Dutch people! The designers description, weirdly, could almost be describing a space station: "We combine the technique of assemblage with strong zoning envelopes, often discovered through a recombination of program and site-specific elements." Yup, it's hip to be square in Amsterdam.

Padang’s mayor has desperately appealed for assistance on Indonesian radio station el-Shinta after a 7.6 magnitude quake devastated the West Sumatra city on Wednesday evening.

“We are overwhelmed with victims and ... lack of clean water, electricity and telecommunications,’’ Mayor Fauzi Bahar said. “We really need help. We call on people to come to Padang to evacuate bodies and help the injured.”

Hundreds of people were trapped under collapsed buildings in Padang alone, including a four-star hotel, he said. Other collapsed or seriously damaged buildings included hospitals, mosques, a school and a mall.

“I was studying math with my friends when suddenly a powerful earthquake destroyed everything around me,’’ an unidentified boy told the TVOne broadcaster. He escaped out of the top floor just as the three-story structure, used for after-school classes, crumpled.

TVOne footage showed heavy equipment breaking through layers of cement in search of more than 30 children it said were missing and feared dead.

Thousands were believed trapped throughout the province, said Rustam Pakaya, head of the Health Ministry’s crisis center.

Search and rescue teams were working in heavy rain when the second strong quake struck, causing widespread panic and badly damaging 30 houses in Jambi, another Sumatran town. It was not yet clear if there were injuries, said Jambi Mayor Hasfiah. Frantic parents were seen rushing to local schools in search of their children.

The shaking in Padang felled trees and crushed cars. A foot could be seen sticking out from one pile of rubble. At daybreak, residents used their bare hands to search for survivors, pulling at the wreckage and tossing it away piece by piece.

“People ran to high ground,’’ said Kasmiati, who lives on the coast near the quake’s epicenter. “I was outside, so I am safe, but my children at home were injured,’’ she said before her cell phone went dead.

The loss of telephone service deepened the worries of those outside the stricken area.

“I want to know what happened to my sister and her husband,’’ said Fitra Jaya, who owns a house in downtown Padang and was in Jakarta when the quake hit. “I tried to call my family there, but I could not reach anyone at all.’’

Hospitals struggled to treat the injured.

Indonesia’s government announced $10 million in emergency response aid and medical teams and military planes were being dispatched to set up field hospitals and distribute tents, medicine and food rations.

Tsunami Samoa 2009

(CNN) -- A tsunami warning for the South Pacific was called off hours after a magnitude 8.0 earthquake was recorded near American Samoa, but the extent of the damage of earlier tsunami waves was still unfolding.
There were conflicting reports on the number of dead. American Samoa Gov. Togiola Tulafono, speaking from Hawaii, said 14 people were dead and noted that those missing had been accounted for. Dr. Salamo Laumoli, director of healthservices of American Samoa, said at least 17 deaths were confirmed.
"Two or three villages have been badly damaged," he told CNN International.

An American Samoa homeland security official working at the island's emergency operations center, Cinta Brown, told CNN that the death toll was expected to rise to at least 20.
The White House late Tuesday "declared a major disaster exists in the Territory of American Samoa" and ordered federal aid to supplement local efforts.
The declaration by President Barack Obama makes federal funding available to affected individuals.
The tsunami wave hit right in the middle of the harbor of Pogo Pogo, the capital, Brown said.
Water damage and infrastructure damage was reported throughout the island, she said.
The village of Leone was "sadly devastated," Brown said. "The wave came onshore and washed out people's homes."
The same happened on the hard-hit east and west sides of American Samoa, she said.
The Pacific Tsunami Warning Center in Ewa Beach, Hawaii, canceled tsunami watches and warnings about four hours after the earthquake hit.
Officials in American Samoa -- a U.S. territory consisting of a small cluster of South Pacific islands -- issued a clear call and were focusing on assessing the damage, Brown said.

The temblor, with a magnitude of 8.0, generated three separate tsunami waves, the largest which measured 5.1 feet from sea level height, Vindell Hsu, a geophysicist with the Pacific Tsunami Warning Center, told CNN. Preliminary data had originally reported a larger tsunami.

The quake was not expected to generate a tsunami along the west coast of the United States or Canada, according to the West Coast and Alaska Tsunami Warning Center, though a tsunami advisory was put in place.

The Japan Meteorological Agency activated a tsunami advisory along its eastern coast. The precautionary alert means that the height of a possible tsunami wave would be less than a foot and a half.

Reports of damage were still emerging, but a bulletin from the Pacific Tsunami Warning Center said the waves "may have been destructive along coasts near the earthquake epicenter and could also be a threat to more distant coasts. Authorities should take appropriate action in response to this possibility."

The quake was recorded at about 6:48 a.m. (1:28 p.m. ET) at a depth of about 7.4 miles (11.9 km), the USGS reported. Early reports had the magnitude at 7.9, but the USGS upgraded that to 8.0 about two hours after the initial report.

Laumoli, the health services director for American Samoa, said the earthquake was so powerful he felt as though the earth might split.

"It was the largest earthquake I have ever felt," he said.
Brown agreed.

She was standing in a parking lot when the earthquake hit, shaking her sports utility vehicle left and right.

"You could hear the rattling of the metal" of a large chain link fence around the lot, Brown said.

"It shakes you because you know something else is coming," she said.

American Samoa Governor Togiola Tulafono was in Hawaii during the earthquake and subsequent tsunami.

The U.S. Coast Guard was sending a C-130 plane to American Samoa to deliver aid and transport Tulafono back, Lt. John Titchen, spokesman for the 14th Coast Guard District, told CNN.

The Coast Guard also will transport more than 20 officials from the Federal Emergency Management Agency to American Samoa, said John Hamill, external affairs officer for FEMA in Oakland, California.

The FEMA team will include a variety of debris experts, housing experts, members of the Corps of Engineers, and other disaster relief specialists, Hamill said.

Despite the naysaying former wives of John Phillips, more and more credence is being added to MacKenzie Phillips' sordid tale of incestuous, drug-addled relations and subsequent potential chud-baby abortions The youngest, and arguably currently most stable Phillips, Bijou, spoke up on her behalf, claiming she has known about the relationship between her half-sister and her father since she was thirteen.

Phillips released a statement to the Oprah Winfrey show stating as much, adding that the situation was so gross and scary that she found it 'heartbreaking' that the adult figures in her life would leave her alone with her dad. Oh, MAN. That is really terrible. There's nothing worse than when you suspect/know that an adult you rely on for security and support as a child is aware of a dangerous and abusive situation and does NOTHING to protect you, because they're in denial about their own relationship with the offender. Mackenzie says she felt the conclusion of her own sexual relationship with her father knocked some sense into him, and didn't feel he would pursue Bijou, but nonetheless often stopped by to check up on her welfare.

Hopefully, this talk will inspire people who have long suffered with guilt from a parent's unwanted attention, or tolerated abuse, be it physical, mental, or sexual, that expanded into adult years, to come out and confront their demons.

Stafon Johnson injured

USC running back Stafon Johnson has been injured in a weight room accident at the school.

September 28, 2009.

The senior from Dorsey High was lifting weights this morning when he apparently lost control of the bar and it landed on his neck. He was reportedly spitting up blood and was taken by ambulance to the hospital, where he is undergoing surgery, according to the USC website.

Chris Carlisle, USC's strength and conditioning coach, said such an accident was rare. "I've seen players have the bar slip and fall onto their chest, but never in my 25 years of coaching have I heard of someone dropping a bar on their throat," the coach said.

Carlisle, who was within feet of Johnson when the accident occurred, said an assistant strength and conditioning coach was acting as a "spotter" for the player.

Coach Pete Carroll called the incident "an unfortunate accident," adding that "our thoughts and prayers are with Stafon."

Johnson leads USC with five touchdowns this season, and is the team's second-leading rusher with 157 yards in 32 carries, a 4.9 yards-per-carry average.
